University observatory Jena
Since 1962 the Astrophysical institute of Jena operates an observatory in a grove nearby the small village Groschwabhausen (GSH). It is located about 10 km to the west from Jena and for Central Europe the climatic conditions are tolerable for optical astronomy.
The observatory provides a 90 cm Schmidt-Reflector from the manufacturer "Zeiss Jena" (60 cm Schmidt-plate) with a CCD camera for the Schmidt-focus and a glass fiber spectrograph for the Nasmyth-focus. Moreover, the observatory has a 25 cm reflector and an auxiliary 20 cm reflector, each equipped with a CCD camera.
Observations are done in every clear night for the purposes of the education of students and research.
Coordinates of the observatory:
| Longitude (east): | 1129'03'' | = | 11.48416 |
| Latitude (north): | 5055'44'' | = | 50.92888 |
