We are engaged in the production and processing of cosmic dust analogs
such as silicates and carbonaceous materials and their structural and spectral characterization. We are also interested in the spectral properties of
interstellar grains. The cosmic dust introduces the problems of
solid state and surface physics into astrophysics.
Analytical Tools
we use for the determination of the
chemical composition, internal structure, chemical and structural homogeneity
of the cosmic dust analogs are transmission and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM, HRTEM),
scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), electron energy loss
spectroscopy (EELS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction,
wet-chemical analyses.
Spectroscopical Tools we apply for measurements of the
spectral properties and derivation of optical constants are
EELS, FUV, UV/VIS and IR spectroscopy (110nm - 800micron, reflectance and transmission),
scattering measurements in the UV/VIS with the integration sphere.
